Kaohsiung Harbor is one of the main ports serving the Pacific Ocean, and the third largest port in Asia. Because of Taiwan’s location on the furthest western side of the Pacific Rim, it has ideal conditions beneficial to the economic efficiency required by shipping companies, so Taiwan is advantageously prepared to become a transshipment center. At the same time, Kaohsiung hosts 13 airlines with 18 international inbound and outbound routes, and in addition, the metropolitan area is undergoing planned development, including many national standard projects such as the KMRT, hi-speed railway, Southern Star plan, new town plan and others, which will not only advance Kaohsiung’s move towards internationalization but help Kaohsiung become the transshipment metropolis described by economic strategy experts, and even a free trade harbor management center in the future.
